1403/2026 - Smoke investigation, Jersey

The Service was requested by Jersey Coastguard to assist with locating the source of smoke,  which had been reported at various locations across the Island,  but with no known source.  Due to the prolonged dry weather and current sunny conditions, there was concern that a wildfire may have started.  

Coming off blocks at 1530 hrs, Lions' Pride departed from runway 09 at 1540 hrs and set course for the north west corner of Jersey.  

Arriving on scene at 1550 hrs, a clockwise orbit of the Island was flown at 1,000ft AMSL in clear conditions and with excellent visibility.  The whole Island was able to be observed.  

A bank of smoke was observed at just above 1,000 ft being blown towards Jersey from the west coast of France, by the north easterly wind.  Crew could smell the smoke, particularly around the areas of St Catherine and St Brelade. 

Having completed a full orbit of the Island, and with no visible sources of smoke, Lions' Pride was stood down, returning to Guernsey to be refuelled and made ready for service.
