1404/2026 - Red flare, Guernsey

12/07/2026

The Service was requested to launch at 2132 hrs by Guernsey Coastguard, following multiple reports of a red flare in the area between Port Grat and Grandes Rocques.  It was unclear whether the flare had been launched from the sea or land.

Coming off blocks at 2205 hrs, Lions’ Pride departed from runway 09 at 2213 hrs, arriving in the search area at 2213 hrs.  Conditions were windy, with some mild turbulence, but visibility was very good.  The crew were tasked to carry out a shoreline search between Rousse and Grandes Rocques.

Whilst items of interest were observed, they were quickly discounted from the search.

After further sweeps of the area, the crew were stood down by Guernsey Coastguard, and returned to Guernsey, landing on runway 09 at 2305 hrs.
