1253/2025 - Vessel search, Guernsey
18/04/2025
The Service was called at 1150 hrs on 18th April, alongside St Peter Port lifeboat to search for a vessel which had suffered a failure of its communication and navigation equipment.
The vessel was a 10m sailing yacht with one person on board, estimated to be five to six nautical miles north of Guernsey, but unsure of his exact position.
Lions’ Pride departed from Guernsey and made its way to the search area. Low cloud and rain significantly reduced visibility, but the sailor had activated a Personal Locator Beacon, which provided an estimated position.
Arriving at that location, the lifeboat indicated they had seen what looked like a sailing vessel two nautical miles to their north.
Lions' Pride was able to confirm the vessel as the casualty.
Lions' Pride remained on scene while the lifeboat established a tow and assessed the sailor's condition.
With the tow established and underway, Lions' Pride was stood down at 1315 hrs and returned to Guernsey to be refuelled and made ready for service.
