1249/2025 - Possible person overboard, Carteret

11/04/2025
The Service was called out by Cross Jobourg, following the discovery four hours earlier of a small vessel, unoccupied and adrift at sea.
The vessel appeared in good condition with the outboard engine up and with the keys still in the ignition, so there was concern that its owner could have fallen overboard. A French navy helicopter and French Lifeboat were also involved in the search.
The Service was tasked with searching an area between Cap du Rozel and Carteret.
The Service's aircraft, Lions' Pride, took off from Guernsey Airport at 2010 hrs and proceeded to the search area.
Although dark, visibility with the Wescam FLIR camera was excellent and the area was thoroughly searched with nothing of interest found.
An unusual heat source was identified on the beach slightly further north, towards Vauville. This was found to be a bonfire on the beach with several individuals close by who appeared not to be in any distress so this contact was discounted.
On completion of the search, the Service was stood down by Cross Jobourg and returned to Guernsey Airport, landing at 2210 hrs, having been airborne for two hours and searching an area of just over 100 square miles.
