Search Summary 2011OPERATIONS Searches undertaken during 2011 are listed below:-
1/11 A semi-deflated RIB was found by a passing yacht between Sark and Jersey. Later in the search, Jersey Coastguard got in contact with the owner of the RIB and learnt that it had been stolen. 2/11 An elderly man was reported missing between Camp du Roi and the west coast. The aircraft was stood down at 03:50 after the man was located safe and well. 3/11 A missing male, aged late 20s, was believed overdue from a shore fishing trip. The area between Chouet headland and Bordeaux car park was searched with the aid of the FLIR. The aircraft was stood down, and the man was later found. 4/11 Two youths were reported missing in a Hobie Cat vessel of the coast of France. Extensive searching had already taken place, and the aircraft was initially tasked with searching 6 grid boxes in the north of the area, followed by a further 4 boxes. The aircraft then returned to Guernsey for refuelling and crew change. 5/11 Continuing the previous search, the aircraft was tasked with searching 4 grid boxes. Within minutes of reaching the area, information was received that the vessel had been located with the two casualties. 6/11 The aircraft was conducting a training exercise when the crew were requested to locate the source of a distress beacon. ATC subsequently advised that the signal was transmitted in error by a Blue Islands aircraft on the ground. The crew returned to the training exercise. 7/11 A crew member was reported missing overboard from the cruise liner Celebrity Eclipse, north of Cap de la Hague. Four grid boxes were searched, with negative result. The service was stood down at 12:35. 8/11 The aircraft was called out by Jersey Coastguard to search the west coast of Jersey for a missing life-raft. An area of 30 sq miles was searched and the life-raft was located at 11:55. The pilot boat retrieved the life-raft and Jersey Coastguard confirmed that the search for further casualties was not necessary and the aircraft stood down. 9/11 The aircraft was called out by Guernsey Coastguard to search for an overdue speedboat with 3 people on board which was on passage between Jersey and Guernsey. The occupants had used a mobile phone to declare that they were lost in fog and unsure of their position. The vessel was located in thick fog 6 miles WNW of Dielette harbour at 00:45. The St Peter Port lifeboat subsequently took the vessel in tow, and the aircraft returned to Guernsey. 10/11 The aircraft was called out by Jersey Coastguard to search for a missing person in an inflatable kayak in the Ecrehou area. Whilst on scene, Jersey Coastguard confirmed that the casualty had been found and was being recovered by St Catherine’s lifeboat. The aircraft was stood down and returned to Guernsey. 11/11 Lions’ Pride was called out by the Guernsey Coastguard who reported that a light aircraft with two occupants had ditched in the sea to the west of the Casquets lighthouse. One casualty was subsequently located, and the service was stood down when HMS Tyne joined the search – HMS Tyne also had thermal imaging equipment.
