Search Summary 2006OPERATIONS Searches undertaken during 2006 are listed below:-01/06 Following the reported sinking of a fishing boat northwest of Alderney a 3½ hr search was carried out in conjunction with the Alderney Lifeboat, a French helicopter and fixed wing aircraft. A considerable amount of debris was spotted. It was subsequently established that only one of the crew from the vessel had been successfully rescued. 02/06 A 3 hour search for a crew member missing from a vessel to the northwest of Guernsey. A considerable time had elapsed since his reported disappearance and no sign of him was found. 03/06 Following reports of a liferaft adrift north of Alderney a search was started, but by the time the aircraft reached the area the liferaft had been located by A French helicopter and its identity established. There were no casualties. The aircraft landed after 50 mins. 04/06 A 3½ hr search at the request of the French coastguard CrossCo following a Mayday call appearing to emanate from north of the Brittany coast. Only one call, which was very clear, was received but no sign was found of any casualty in weather conditions which although very rough, provided very good visibility. 05/06 A 1½ hr search following reported sighting of flares off Cap Flamanville, nothing found. 06/06 A 2 hr search for a kite surfer missing in the Mont St Michel area, nothing found. 07/06 A 2½ hr search for a person overboard from a ferry between Cherbourg and Ireland, nothing found. 08/06 A brief search for a person missing while walking in Jersey, but the person was reported to have been found shortly after take off. 09/06 A 1 hr search for a yacht missing from Ploumanack the vessel was located by other services. 10/06 A 1¾ hr search following capsize of kayaks off Sark. The kayaks and their occupants were all recovered by surface vessels. 11&12/06 A 2¾ hr searching with St Catherine’s lifeboat and a French helicopter following report of a yacht found in the area of Les Minquiers with no-one on board. A body was recovered off the east coat of Jersey. 13/06 A 1 hr search for a diver reported missing off Sark, the diver was located before the aircraft arrived on scene. 14/06 A 2½ hr search for a man reported missing off the south coast of Jersey. Subsequently established that he was not in the area. 15/06 A 4 hr search for survivors from a yacht which had capsized on Deauville beach. None were found. 16/06 A ½ hour search for a speedboat which had broken down east of Sark. The vessel was located within 10 minutes and the St Catherine’s lifeboat was on the scene within 4 minutes. 17/06 A 2¼ hour search for a yacht reported in difficulty. Radio contact was established and the vessel was located using the on-board direction finding equipment. It was able to make its own way to St Peter Port. 18/06 A 1 hour search, at the request of Jersey Fire Service, to investigate the extent of a cliff fire at Bouley Bay. 19/06 A 2 hour search for a boat reported stolen from Jersey. The vessel was located close to Bouley Bay where it had suffered engine failure and was anchored. 20-22/06 A total of 10¾ hours searching for a man reported overboard from a French fishing vessel. A French helicopter, St Peter Port lifeboat, a French warship and several fishing boats were also searching but nothing was found. 23/06 A 3 hour search in conjunction with the Brecqhou helicopter, St Peter Port lifeboat and other vessels for a diver reported missing off Fermain. It was subsequently established that the person had not been in the water. Due to fog, the aircraft had to divert to Jersey, where the crew had to remain overnight. 24/06 A ¾ hour search for a diver reported to have been swept off rocks on the north coast of Jersey. It was subsequently established that the person had not entered the water. Once again fog necessitated a diversion and overnight stop for the crew in Jersey. 25/06 A 3 hour search, in conjunction with a French helicopter, following the discovery of a dinghy in the vicinity of Les Minquiers. Nothing was found. 26/06 A 1 hour search for a windsurfer reported missing off the north coast of Jersey. He was later reported to have been located safe and well. 27/06 A woman had been reported missing on Guernsey’s south coast cliff path, but had been found by the time the aircraft was airborne. 28/06 A 1¾ hour search in turbulent conditions for a man reported missing in St Martin’s Guernsey. He was located 18 hours later outside the search area. |
