Search Summary 2005OPERATIONS Searches undertaken during 2005 are listed below:-04/05 Man reported missing, cliffs in the Petit Bot area searched. Nothing found. Man was later found elsewhere and returned home. 05/05 CrossCo requested Air Search for sailboarder off the French coast in the area of St Quay Portieux. Board found washed up on beach. No person found. Aircraft diverted to Dinard for the night due to poor weather conditions. 06/05 Red flare sighted off Jersey, nothing found. 07/05 EPIRB off Jersey. Aircraft on training flight. Plane flew over area, no further signal heard. 08/05 Red flare sighted off the Minquies. Nothing found after search of the area. 09/05 Overdue fishing boat from Sark to Jersey. Bobbers spotted off Little Sark. On closer inspection the boat was revealed just below the surface. Lifeboat directed to scene. Search continued for missing crew, no one found. 10/05 Overdue fishing boat “Our Pete”, search round Alderney area. Weatherconditions worsened (snowing). Aircraft stood down. 11/05 Continuation of search for missing boat “Our Pete” Aircraft returned to refuel and change crew, this time sighting of oil made, but no one found. 12/05 Call to locate EPIRB Aircraft searched at 1000ft several vessels sighted but identified as not in distress, No further signal heard. 13/05 Man overboard from yacht off Perros Guirec. Flir and searchlight used.Search in conjunction with French helicopter and lifeboat. No sign of missing person. 14/05 Man overboard from Weymouth fishing boat. No sign of missing person. 15/05 EPIRB from French fishing vessel. Crew from vessel picked up from life raft by container ship. 16/05 Search for a woman reported missing in Guernsey. Missing person not located. 17/05 Call to vessel reported sinking north of Sark. Occupants rescued by St Peter Port lifeboat. 18/05 Search in conjunction with French Helicopter, for source of EPIRB signal, established as being in Braye Harbour, Alderney. Boat to boat check was carried out by Alderney authorities. 19/05 Search in conjunction with Coastguard helicopter for a diver missing mid-channel from a Weymouth based dive boat. Nothing found. 20/05 Man reported overboard from yacht in single-handed yacht race from the Needles to Cherbourg. Casualty spotted by fellow competitor and rescued by French Helicopter. 21/05 Night search for a man reported overboard from a French sailing ship south of St Martin’s Point. no sign of casualty found. 22/05 Man overboard from fishing boat. No sign of missing person. 23/05 Canoe reported upturned off the north -west coast of Jersey. The St Helier lifeboat confirmed no persons were missing. 24/05 A call to search for a man reported missing from a fishing boat in Alderney harbour; the aircraft was recalled before reaching the area when the man was found ashore. 25/05 A 1 hour search for a Jersey fishing boat reported missing. The boat and occupant were located by a Jersey lifeboat in an area outside that allocated for Air Search to cover. 26/05 A 3 hour search to the north-west of Alderney for a man reported overboard from a commercial vessel in mid-channel. Nothing located. 27 & 28/05 A 2¾ hour night search using the heat-seeking camera for a person missing on the south-west coast of Jersey, followed by a further one hour search at daybreak. During the second search the person was reported to have been found safe. 29/05 A 1 hour search in the area of L’Eree beach in very rough conditions, following a report of a windsurfing sail washed up on the slipway. During the search it was learned that the windsurfer had been seen walking ashore. |
