Search Summary 2004OPERATIONS Searches undertaken during 2004 are listed below:-01/04 A search of Guernsey’s south coast for a woman reported missing, she was subsequently found safe. 02/04 A 3 hour search for a man overboard from a French fishing boat, in conjunction with a French helicopter, Jersey lifeboat and sea fisheries vessels as well as French and Jersey fishing boats. Nothing found. 03/04 A search for the source of a distress beacon signal. The aircraft’s homer enabled this to be pinpointed slightly inland on the north coast of Guernsey. 04/04 A night time search for a man reported missing in the region of St Peter Port harbour. The FLIR camera permitted location of people on the coastline, but the man was reported to have been found by the police. 05/04 to 07/04 A total of 8½ hours searching for survivors, in conjunction with a French aircraft, helicopter and vessels, following receipt of a mayday from a French fishing vessel. Wreckage was spotted, but no survivors found. 08/04 In very turbulent conditions a search of Guernsey’s south coast for a man reported missing. The police were directed to a person in the Petit Bot area, but he was not the missing person who was later found in the Fort Grey area. 09/04 No details 10/04 A fishermen had been swept off rocks on the south coast of Sark. A search was carried out in conjunction with the Brecqhou helicopter. The man was recovered by the St Peter Port lifeboat. 11/04 A distress beacon had been reported north west of Guernsey. It was detected by the aircraft’s equipment and the position coincided with that of a passenger ferry. However no active beacon was found. Due to fog in Guernsey the aircraft had to divert to Jersey where accommodation and transport were provided by Jersey Aero Club and police until the crew were able to return to Guernsey the next morning. 12/04 The beacon involved in search 11/04 appeared to be still transmitting the following morning. The homer indicated a source inland from Vazon beach. The source was not found. 13/04 A successful search for a power cruiser lost between Alderney and France. The Alderney lifeboat was directed to the casualty. 14/04 A distress beacon had been reported, but no signal could be identified from the aircraft. 15/04 A night time search for a yacht reported overdue to the east of Jersey. The vessel was found safe in Carteret. 16/04 A 3 hour search for a man reported missing on the south coast of Jersey, in conjunction with St Helier lifeboat, 2 fire brigade inshore lifeboats, several private vessels and a cliff rescue party on shore. Nothing found. 17/04 The aircraft was on exercise when the crew spotted what appeared to be a body in the water to the south of Sark. Contact was made with the ferry ‘Commodore Clipper’ which was in the area. A boat was lowered from the ferry and the object was identified as a survival suit, but no casualty. 18/04 A distress beacon west of Guernsey. No source found. 19/04 A yacht was partly submerged in Derrible Bay, Sark, but the whereabouts of the crew was unknown. While a search was being carried out the crew were found safe and well in Guernsey. 20/04 3 divers missing to the east of Sark. Within 15 minutes of take off they were located by the aircraft and a vessel directed to pick them up. Location was made easier by the yellow flags and strobe light which the divers were carrying. |
