Search Summary 2000Searches undertaken during 2000 are listed below:-Search 01/00 A search was carried out for 2 divers reported overdue off the south-east coast of Guernsey. 25 minutes after take-off the divers were located by the aircraft some 4 miles south of Guernsey. Their position was marked with orange smoke floats to assist the St Peter Port lifeboat in their location and they were retrieved from the water some 12 minutes after being sighted. Search 02/00 A search was carried out at the request of the French rescue centre at Brest for a man reported lost overboard from a vessel to the south-west of Guernsey. As he had already been missing for over 12 hours when the aircraft was called, the chances of location were slim, and a search of the specified area revealed no trace of a casualty. Search 3/00 Emergency locator beacon reported by satellite south of Pleinmont Point. Source of signal located close to Saints Bay, but apparently no vessel in distress. Searches 4/00 & 5/00 Red flares reported in the Baie de Mont St Michel. This was the first operational use of the FLIR equipment which proved very effective. No sign found of any casualty during more than 7 hours searching. Search 6/00 Search for an inflatable reported overdue on trip from Guernsey to Sark. It was subsequently established that the vessel had travelled from Guernsey to England. Search 7/00 A fisherman had fallen in the water from rocks at Bouley Bay in Jersey. An extensive search using FLIR failed to find any trace of the casualty although many targets were identified. Search 8/00 While the aircraft was airborne on a training exercise, a report was received of flares in Les Ecrehous. 2 persons were recovered from the water by vessels in the area. Search 9/00 A person was reported missing from a car found at Greve de Lecq in Jersey. While a search of the coast was in progress the person was found ashore safe and well. Search 10/00 A person reported missing on the south Guernsey cliffs was subsequently found ashore unharmed. Search 11/00 A person was reported overboard from a yacht south of La Corbiere, Jersey. The Commodore Clipper sighted the person who was taken aboard the St Helier lifeboat. Search 12/00 A person reported missing on the north coast of Jersey, but by the time the aircraft arrived on the scene within half an hour of call-out the person had been found safe and well. |
