Jersey Friends of Air SearchPresident's Report 1999It’s my pleasure to present the Presidents report for the last eighteen months since we changed our AGM’s to comply with the end of year book keeping procedures. 1999 has seen a lot of involvement with the Forward Looking Infra Red imaging equipment and the time that the alterations to the Aircraft and the bureaucracy that involved the Civil Aviation Authority has somewhat put a cloud over the fitting. Then there were the Receivership problems when an Oman Company bought out Britten-Norman. Various Organisations and Clubs have donated within the region of £170,000 within Jersey for this equipment and it is hoped that not in the too distant future, a thank you evening will be held at the Aero Club for those people within those Organisations and Clubs and the aircraft will be over and they can see where their money has gone. Today, I have spoken to a member of Air Search in Guernsey who was called out at 04.30 hours this morning and within a short time they were using FLIR in the Bay of Mont St Michel and the feedback from him was that it was very good indeed. Having this equipment fitted will be a great help to all the Islands Search and Rescue capabilities. Over the last twelve months or so, the rift between Guernsey and ourselves has got better and although sometimes it was like getting blood from a stone with regards to up-dates on FLIR, but I am quite sure that we have crossed those bridges and we speak more and with the wonders of e-mails, I get a lot more information than before. I would like to thank my hard working Committee, Andy Rennell, who is standing down this year to have some quality time on his boat I hope, Ron McLean, Don Filleul, Richard Haycock, Richard Holmes, Harry Fenn, Wally Le Couteur, Chris Bentley and Derek Lane for his up-dates on FLIR. It was sad that we lost Bob Hollick earlier this year, because he was a stalwart looking after the collecting boxes and for Graham Talbot for looking after the membership lists. To everyone who has given us ideas for fund raising and all their support either at functions or at the lunches. A special thanks to our ever-efficient Treasurer, Derek Short, for his expertise in accounting. His tireless efforts to raise money for FLIR has proved beyond all reasonable doubt, that it is who you know not what you know that brings in money. Thank you Derek and he will be giving you details of the last year’s accounts, which shows that C.I.A.S. is in a healthy state of affairs.
