Guernsey Friends of Air SearchNewsletter - Summer 2000EventsOn 4 June over 500 people took the opportunity to visit an Open Garden organised by the Friends at the home of Mr & Mrs John Webb at The Hermitage, St. Martin's. This Open Garden formed part of the Floral Guernsey Festival and we were fortunate to have the Guernsey Concert Band there courtesy of Floral Guernsey. Light refreshments were available with home-made cakes being generously donated by the St. Martin's and Fermain Women's Institutes in addition to a number of supporters. Overall a total of £1,567.40 was raised for funds and our sincere thanks are due to the owners for allowing us to hold the event in their garden also to Mrs Rachel Rabey who opened her cottage garden opposite as well. We attended the North Regatta and the Harbour Carnival and will be in attendance with the caravan for two days at the West Show. These events give us the opportunity to raise the profile of Channel Islands Air Search in addition to raising much-needed funds to support the continuation of the service. Our attendance at events throughout the summer is limited by the number of helpers we are able to get and so anyone who is prepared to assist in some form at one or more of our events would be most welcome. If you are that person, or you know of someone who you think would help, please do contact us - even an hour a year would help! We are currently looking for helpers to man our table at Safeway on Friday 15 September and Saturday 16 September when we will again be selling our draw tickets. If you are able to assist with this or with anything else in the future, do please contact our Events Co-ordinator, Reg Noble - he will be delighted to hear from you. As we said earlier we are constrained to a degree by the number of helpers we are able to muster so even an hour can be of great help and enables us to try to avoid asking anyone to remain on the stand for too long. SubscriptionsWe have received a considerable number of subscriptions for 2000 from our supporters for which we are grateful. However from our records, there seems to be quite a number of people who have supported us in the past and who appear to have overlooked renewing their membership. Many regular subscriptions are by Standing Order and we enclose a form for this in case you currently pay by cheque and would like to change to this method of payment. The annual subscription is still only £10, with life membership at £100 which an increasing number of our supporters are now taking. Subscriptions or Standing Order forms should be sent to the Hon. Treasurer. Draw Tickets10 prize draw tickets are enclosed which we hope you will be able to sell to aid funds. Counterfoils and payments should be returned to the Hon. Treasurer at the address above no later than Monday 2 October. For SalePlease remember Air Search when ordering your Christmas cards. A local card depicting Bordeaux Harbour in the snow by Sheila Noble is available with discount for bulk orders. Also for a special Christmas present why not give an Air Search jumper, sweatshirt, tee shirt, tie or cap. A new range of good quality sweatshirts has just arrived. We also have a few remaining copy prints of a lovely painting of St.Peter Port harbour donated to the Friends by local artist Sheila Noble. Prints are only £10 each. Prices on other items are available from Reg Noble. AnniversaryNext year marks the 21st anniversary of the founding of Channel Islands Air Search and we are planning to mark this event. More details to follow. Please help support the Guernsey Friend's of Air Search to support them |
